School General Rules

Course Postponements

If you want to postpone the commencement date of your course you must tell the office the week before the commencement. Postponements, just as in the case of holidays, are not official unless they are written down on the office's copy of your student card. (If you postpone a course or book a holiday by telephone it is entirely at your own risk). You can only postpone your course 3 times when you are in your country and cannot come on the date you first reserved. Please therefore think very carefully when deciding your starting date. When you are already in England , you can only postpone once and the maximum length you can postpone for is the length of the course you have reserved.

Refunds

Tuition fees and deposits are not returnable or transferable in full or in part (except as in below). They are only valid for the person specified. Tuition fees above the amount of the school's normal deposit will be refunded to students who fail to gain a visa but the registration fee is not refundable. This only applies to those students who inform the school of this before the commencement date of their course and who provide documentary evidence of visa refusal. Students who inform us after the starting date will suffer a penalty equivalent to the number of weeks that have passed since the commencement date. All students seeking refunds must provide an official stamped document showing that a visa has not been issued. All students are strongly advised to take out medical insurance so as to avoid loss in case of illness or injury. Students are also advised to take out insurance so as to avoid loss if they have to cancel or curtail their course. In all cases of refunds of tuition fees, your student card or letter of enrolment must be shown to the school office - not a copy. CAMBRIDGE CELTA TRAINING COURSE participants who fail to arrive or to complete the course cannot be refunded under any circumstances.

Holidays

Students may take one holiday during each twelve-week course. If you want to take a holiday you must inform the office in the week before you want your holiday to start; (for example, if you want to have a holiday commencing Monday 17th, the last day you can tell the office is Friday 14th). If you have 6 or more weeks remaining on your course you may take the maximum of 6 weeks holiday. Under 6 weeks you may take a holiday for the number of weeks you have left. If you do not take a holiday during a 12 week-period, you can't use that holiday allowance on your next course.

Practice Classes

The minimum number of weeks you can study for on a practice course is 4 weeks. Practice classes must be paid for in full. We do not accept deposits for these courses. Tuition fees are not refundable or transferable (except as in 5.). They are only valid for the person and the dates shown on the student card. Practice courses cannot be postponed. The dates of the course are fixed and cannot be changed under any circumstances. Students may take one holiday (maximum length - 2 weeks) during each twenty-four week course. You must tell the office the week before you want the holiday to start. Tuition fees but not the registration fee will be refunded to students who fail to gain a visa. There will, however, be an administrative charge of £110 which will be deducted from the total paid. This applies only to students who inform the school office before the starting date of the course: those who inform us later will suffer a further penalty equivalent to the number of weeks that have passed since the commencement date of the course. All students must provide an official stamped document showing that a visa has not been issued. In all cases of refunds of tuition fees, your student card or letter of enrolment must be shown to the office (not a copy). Students in Practice Classes may use the Listening Centres, but they cannot borrow books or audio cassettes to use in the centres. Please Note: There are NO beginners courses in the cheap Practice Classes. If you are a beginner when you arrive at the school you must change to the full-price classes until your English is level 1a. Also the highest level on the Practice Classes is Higher Intermediate which is lower than Cambridge First Certificate level. If your English is too good for these classes, the only alternative is to transfer to our full-price courses where we have proper advanced levels. We do not allow students whose English is too high to join the Practice Classes. Please Note: Practice Class timetables are not guaranteed. Although we always try to give people their preferred timetable, you should be prepared to study at another time if the hours you have booked are not available. This applies especially to the 9-12 slot.

Accommodation

To book accommodation, you must send an advance payment with your Application Form of £120 (a £50 booking fee is included in this price). When we receive the advance payment we will send you your Home Stay accommodation address, map and invoice for the rest of the money. The rest of the money must arrive in London on or before the first Monday of your stay; your Home Stay accommodation may be cancelled if you are late in making payment. Students who fail to arrive or complete their stay will lose £120 of their advance payment. Applications must show the exact date of your arrival (students wishing to be met at the airport for transfer must tell us all the flight details at least one week before arrival). Please try to arrive on Saturday or Sunday; there may be a small extra charge for reservations beginning on other days. There are no refunds of airport transfer reservations under any circumstances, except when the school's courier fails to arrive at the airport in time to meet your flight.
