IELTS

What is IELTS?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) tests the complete range of English language skills which will commonly be encountered by students when studying or training in the medium of English.

There is an option of either Academic or General Training Reading and Writing Modules. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking Modules.

The Academic Module which is suitable for students planning to undertake a course in higher education, is the option Stanton School will prepare its students for.

Most Australian, British, Canadian and New Zealand academic institutions accept IELTS, while American ones are increasingly accepting IELTS for admissions purposes.

How Can I Join the Stanton IELTS Course?

You must have taken and successfully passed a Hurdle Test (or entrance test) before you join an IELTS exam class.

The minimum level required to take the test is 4b, although the IELTS hurdle test and exam course are designed for students with a minimum of level 5. The Stanton IELTS course aims at preparing students in exam techniques only and not at improving their general level of English.

The Hurdle Tests will be held between 03 January 2012 and 18 January 2012

The last day to take the Hurdle Test is the Wednesday before the course starts.

The course will last for 10 weeks from 23 January 2012

The next course after this will start on 24 September 2012

** plus 20 pounds registration fee if you are new to Stanton School of English

The average cost for the exam is 110 pounds.

How do I take the test?

Take the Hurdle Test and after having been accepted onto the course, pay at the reception.

The final day to pay is the Thursday before the course begins.

Unlike the Cambridge suite of exams, which you can only take twice a year, IELTS is available throughout the year at a variety of centres in and around London.

Those more centrally located tend to have waiting lists, while those out of town tend to have a higher degree of availability. In addition to this, many of our IELTS course candidates do not wish to take the exam immediately upon completion of our short intensive course. For these reasons we do not currently undertake to register students for the exam, leaving it to them to register at the centre of their choice.
